Dear Urban Guru Readers!

Our little boy Jacob has only slept through the night on about 4 occasions in the past 6 months, and for whatever reason it is my responsibility most nights to settle him back to sleep with a little 3 am pat or the occasional hug.

As I’ve previously mentioned I can conclusively prove that long term sleep deprivation and disturbance really does affect ones mental abilities and spiritual agilities.

And if I’m being totally honest with myself and you, the Urban Guru has really not been on top form. I’ve been writing a monthly column for EN magazine as you’ll probably been aware of, but that’s been about it.

My energetic focus has been on my family and launching my ONE THINK SPACE training business, publishing my first downloadable book see here for more details, continuing to provided the best life coaching services in Manchester.

But I have realised that the Urban Guru site and persona have suffered as a result. More importantly I’ve realised that ‘the Urban Guru’ is probably the closest thing to who I really am, who I am when I fulfil all of my potentialities, deeply happy, inspired and loving of all existence.

So I’m going to be making a concerted effort to put my focus back where it belongs and invest in the future that I’m creating for myself and my universe with Urban Guru.

Not only for you, but as you’ve gathered also for me. Being and becoming the Urban Guru has been a life-long journey and it is a journey that has revealed itself to me in piecemeal, that’s not to say the being and becoming the Urban Guru is the end of the journey by any means, but that for the moment it is one of the best things I can do for my own sanity and for the world.

Over the past few weeks I’ve rediscovered an eternal truth, that I have been ‘theoretically’ aware of for many years and that is, “the best thing you can do for the world, is to be yourself completely”.

Often, because of the spiritual training and religious brainwashing that I’ve undergone in my many years in the various religious seminaries I attended.

I find it easy to put myself and my own needs to one side, while putting the needs of other before my own.

Now of course this is very commendable and indeed a really useful personal and spiritual tool that can be used on occasions, however being selfless is not a way to live every moment of your life.

The tradition I come from suggested that the truly enlightened individual metaphorically carries two different verses in their pocket, the first:

“The entire universe was created for me”

and the second:
“Be as dust of the earth before all”

And obviously either characteristic, whether feeling like a ego-centric megalomaniac or feeling like a worthless piece of dust are not psychological goals in and of themselves.

They are like wings of a bird, each one balances out the other, so that together you can truly fly.

At times you need to be humble and at times you need to be ego-centric and put yourself first, this balancing act is best mediated by the feeling and experience of love.

Love is not prejudice; it loves you as much as it loves the people in your life. Love will let you know when to be humble and when to be self-centred. Because if your feeling of love is being compromised you’ll know and that’s when you know to stop and say, No!

It is that sense of love that gives you the permission to love yourself, to look after yourself to care for yourself and to ask the universe for the things that you need and want to fully become the truly amazing person you are and were always meant to be.

Because if you don’t love and look after yourself and your own personal and spiritual development then, there will be no you to help others, no feeling of love to share or give to others.

So for the sake of the planet, for the sake of every human being, learn to love yourself and learn to be selfless. Learn to become the centre of your own universe and at the same time learn to be x-centric – to put yourself outside of the centre of your universe so that you can truly help and be there for another.

Love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love -
